All of the Infuse Energy plans can be made green by selecting the “Show me the Green plans" option during the enrollment process.
Also known as Green Energy, Renewable Energy is electricity generated by naturally sustainable fuel sources instead of being generated from fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, etc.) or nuclear technology. Examples of renewable energy are solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass. The generation of green energy does not send harmful emissions like carbon dioxide, mercury, nitrogen oxide, and sulfur dioxide into the environment.
If you choose a Green Power plan, we purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to effectively pair your usage with power generated from renewable sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, and biomass. In short, a REC is a credit granted to a green energy producer (a wind farm, for example) for each megawatt-hour generated from that producer’s renewable resource. The green energy producer can sell that REC into the open market. This is where we come in. We calculate how much energy is consumed by people on our Green Energy plans and purchase an equal number of RECs. Understand that renewable electrons are indistinguishable from electrons created through other means like fossil fuels (natural gas, coal, etc.). As a result, it is impossible for anyone to ensure that the electrons that reached your house were generated from a renewable resource (no matter what they may say on their website). However, purchasing a REC on your behalf helps ensure that renewable generators are able to continue to provide clean, renewable energy. When you choose to make a plan "green", you are supporting the renewable energy industry, as a whole, and helping to reduce your carbon footprint. The more our customers make their plans green, the more RECs we buy to support green energy production, offsetting energy that would have been created through conventional means.
